OREGON DUNES NATIONAL RECREATION AREA
Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area extends 40 miles up the coast from Coos River, with dunes and pines bordering the ocean. Some of the dunes are 500 feet tall, and they are reported as one of the largest expanses of temperate coastal sand dunes in the world.
It is a popular area for dune buggy riding (OHV) and camping but when we were there in April, it wasn't too busy. There were huge stretches of uninhabited dunes and beach.
Shorebirds foraged in small stretches of water inlets off the ocean.
These birds took to the sky. I believe they are short-billed dowagers.
Ever present coastal fog casts a haze over the horizon and surrounding dunes.
For some reason, the banner is gone from this page but to go back, just hit the back arrow on the website menu. It should take you back to the previous page and the banner. (I'm still trying to figure out how to build a website!)
