OREGON PAINTED HILLS and JOHN JAY FOSSIL BEDS

The geology of Central Oregon continued to amaze. These Painted Hills are not large in area but they are in splendor.

These are the hills on the way into the Painted Hills. Similar appearing but no mineral colors.

When we explored this same area in Fall 2023, we visited the nearby John Jay Fossil Beds and Museum. An old homestead made a picturesque image, giving one to wonder what it must have been like to travel across the wild USA and live there at that time.

On that visit, we didn't know about the Painted Hills, which are only 40 miles from the fossil beds.

On our exploration, we passed through Unity, Oregon as well as a covered wagon that may well have brought settlers here in the 19th century, along the Oregon Trail.
